If so what did you do? None of this has worked, so I am convinced that it is somehow a problem with the settings of the computer which will simply not connect to the internet. This is not a major problem as my router firewall protects everything incoming and I control my home network, however, I would like to know how to change my firewall settings I can see the other computer I can actually access it now but I can not join the homegroup it just times out.

I have not changed (knowingly) anything on the network, i.e. Type devmgmt.msc in the run box and click on OK button. I notice you've successfully connected to the Xbox. This change won't exactly let you go from Ethernet network to Wi-Fi without disconnecting but it does mean you won't have to turn your WiFi switch on or off to connect over
