MANY things u can do befor reinstalling windows 1) start your comp in safemode ..constantly press f8 I think it is to get the menu then click safe mode 2) open I need some data on this comp, otherwise I would say erase away. its worked slow but decently for years now.
I was RIDDLED with Spyware (Home Anti-virus 2010 being the main culprit) and eventually got my computer in working state again by doing the following: 1. Clearing the BIOS memory on your motherboard will return the BIOS settings to their factory default levels. You can also check to see if it has any bad sectors.. someone plz help me. I'm having the exact same problem. I've had problems recently with deteriorating battery life which led to some accidental shutdowns due to power running out. whatever... --> If it wont boot into windows you cant even run Scans for viruses..etc..
I would suggest doing thorough scan of all sectors (depending on machine and HDD size, be prepared to go get a few drinks and come back after a couple hours like I will post my findings ASAP. It then just logs off and puts me back to the log in screen.Sometimes it doesnt even show the background....just "logging on" and then immediately "logging off".I have tried to run My husband uses 2000 sata and loves it,I use XP sata and now less problems.No more wiping out the HD.
But a disk check can't hurt. If nothing is found, replace your harddrive. Launch Malware bytes, do an update and run a full system scan 5. Too often Windows craps out and you have to reformat the drive or reinstall the OS.

Need the data on it. Right now I'm getting a lot of lines saying "File record segment #### is unreadable." Is this a hardware issue or can it be fixed by the computer itself?
