uh, but a bit nervous about shutting down haha! You did unplug the eSATA cable, right? If we get our own, are we best to get one without a HDD at all and just run this, or get a Linux system and run this alongside? The desktop did not, so I had to order a separate cable with usb & esata one one end and eSataP on the other end. I cursed the fact that I couldn't use eSATA without an external power supply, and none was provided with the enclosure.
Don't know your Dell BIOS, or even if you can run in IDE mode.Probably the best solution is to use your older IDE drive as a secondary drive which will work There was a short period where having it hooked up caused windows to hang on shutdown but not anymore. A desktop can have a PCIE card, and I saw a cardbus USB 3.0 card earlier today. #24 mikeymikec, Apr 23, 2012 corkyg Elite Member

Didn't seem to do any damage, but I wouldn't recommend doing it regularly. However, I have 2 eSATA external enclosures for backups and whatnot. Only other thing I can think of that might help is a slight bump to your southbridge voltage. this Original BSOD was IRQL STOP: 0x0000000A Requested HotFix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979444/en-us Ran System File Checker Latest updates from Windows Update Ran CCleaner Full scan with Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware Full scan Microsoft Security Essentials Ausolgics
Major bsod (pretty much first one ever) that mentioned a clock interupt and now I cannot get past the windows startup screen; it just stops pre the login stage and then Exactly my scenario. Even after I "safely remove hardware" and unplug the drive, a couple minutes later the BSOD shows up. I use mine often for the same reasons, external drive via eSATA port. #10 Gillbot, Apr 22, 2012 MoInSTL Senior member Joined: Jan 2, 2012 Messages: 392 Likes Received: 0

If there is a problem, or it's not done exactly, you can't boot, and therefore you can't get back into the registry to correct the problem.
