I have used eSATA for imaging and diagnostics of internal HDDs removed from other PCs, too. If we get our own, are we best to get one without a HDD at all and just run this, or get a Linux system and run this alongside? Didn't seem to do any damage, but I wouldn't recommend doing it regularly. However, I have 2 eSATA external enclosures for backups and whatnot.
